eSpeak as google-free TTS engine for Android

I'm using a google-free Android phone. To navigate the world outside, I use OsmAnd. The only problem I was facing until now was the missing text to speach (TTS) capabilities of my google-free phone which of course does not ship with Google's TTS engine. So OsmAnd could still get me where I wanted to go but didn't audibly tell me when to take which turn.

Today I learned about the eSpeak Android app which is available on F-Droid. It can be configured to be the system wide TTS engine. Now OsmAnd talks to me, although it can sometimes sound a little funny.
