My dad was driving his old silver BMW and I was sitting in the front passenger seat. We headed to a McDonald’s drive-thru, and either drove into it in the wrong way, or it was just weirdly built: all the windows were on the passenger side. I was handed a soda for my dad, served in an ice cream cup with a dozen wooden spoons. I think the whole parking lot was very weirdly setup and exiting it required either driving for kilometers or ignoring the markings and crossing the whole lot diagonally.

We were headed to some office for a videoconference. We parked in the office parking lot, but it is on a slope and the BMW apparently has no brakes. My uncle put his VW Golf sideways so the BMW would hit it and stay parked.

In the meeting room, a projector was showing the frontend of the app I work on in my company, specifically a page that manages users within a group and their access rights. But here it was managing the participants in the video conference. The conference was with my family on my dad’s side, along with some friends of some of the family members.

My dad announced in a rather roundabout way that his political views have changed and that he is now a centrist, a departure from his family’s views that have been leaning further to the right over the years. We lost the connection to the video call, and we saw the participants in the frontend be kicked out of the call: first all the family friends simultaneously, then each family member one by one. We thought that someone was defending my dad and banning anyone insulting him for his political beliefs. But everyone suddenly got added back in, and we got connected again, and we realized that it was just a small outage of my app and nobody was really angry.
