Variation Selector 15
is a special unicode codepoint that requests that an emoji be shown
in a "textual" monocolor
Note that the modified emoji requires font support to work, with many combinations of font and emoji, it will fall back to the normal/colored variation. Older emojis are more likely to be correctly supported.
- often referred to as black and white for simplicity, alough monocolor text can be displayed in other colors depending on context, such as on a text terminal with a green CRT, or via the use of CSS.
