UnScripted FAQ

(1) What is the point of this site?

To provide a list of common web services that can be used without Javascript. Why? Because JavaScript is a complex and resource-intensive language and can be used as a vector for tracking/telemetry/malware. Limiting its use can have security/privacy advantages.

Further, modern JavaScript engines may not be practical on old or resource-limited hardware, and also there are various web browsers which do not support JavaScript.

This site focuses mainly on small, independent, non-commercial alternatives to mainstream corporate services.

Many listings may just be a front-end for a commercial product, but it still provides the user an elevated level of separation and privacy over using the corporate site directly. This is why you won't find certain major sites here, even if they happen to work without JavaScript.

(2) What is your privacy policy?

We do not collect ANY information about visitors to this site.

(3) Why don't you include DDG/Wikipedia/etc?

See (1), 2nd and 3rd paragraphs.

(4) Why isn't there a 'News' section?

Because that can be a highly subjective and divisive subject, therefore this site chooses to refrain from promoting or endorsing any specific sources of this category.

(5) You missed site 'xyz', can you add it?

Please send any additions or corrections to 'alex(@)envs(.)net', if it fits into the scope of this site, we will be happy to add it.
